Fishman Loudbox Acoustic Guitar Amp Review

Fishman Loudbox Acoustic Guitar Amp Review

As you might already know, acoustic amps differ from electric ones, therefore you should not get the latter just because it’s more powerful. You can find amps for the acoustic guitar that give as much power as one for the electric guitar, though.

Fishman Loudbox Acoustic Instrument Amplifier has become somewhat of a fan-favorite and there are plenty of reasons why that is. Let’s take a closer look at this in order for you to realize this is, indeed, a good deal.

About The Product

The Loudbox is a perfect name for this amp: it’s got 60 watts of power, which is quite unbelievable, and renders the amplified sound through a 6.5” speaker. We daresay that these features are more than enough to make your neighbors want to move away.

Man Holding Guitar

The amp is equipped with an XLR output, as well. This output allows you to connect the amp to a mixer. What does this mean? For starters, it means it will get even more amplification, so it will behave as if it had a wattage over 60.

In terms of effects, you get the two most essential ones for acoustic guitars: the classic reverb and chorus. These will sweeten the pot, musically speaking, as they can make your guitar sound even better.

Whereas many amps, both cheap and outrageously expensive, alter the sound when the volume is turned up, the Loudbox handles this issue very well. The sound remains crystal-clear no matter the volume you play at. Here are some features you’ll get from the Loudbox:

3-band equalizer for low, mid and high

This amp truly deserves its nickname of “Loudbox”; there’s not a shred of a doubt about that.  Fishman’s Loudbox is one of the best acoustic amps on the market right now and it does exactly what it’s supposed to do. Its sound is always clear and the effects contribute to the tone a great deal.

There are not that many of them, but you can get a variety of sounds even with the two it’s endowed with. The 60 watts of power crank up a lot of volume. This is outstanding considering that acoustic amps are generally weaker in terms of power.

The XLR output is one of its most important features because it allows you to connect your amp to the mixer of a venue. First of all, this will make your guitar sound better. Second of all, it will get even louder.

The vocals will sound as better as the tone of your guitar, and the reverb will give it a note of elegance. Another thing you’ll come to appreciate is its design: it’s got this nice, vintage vibe about it that many other brands lack. If you want a powerful amp for your acoustic guitar, then you should really consider this.

What Others Say

The Fishman Loudbox has some of the highest amp ratings ever. Owners love the fact that it gets so loud and is powerful enough to allow them to play in small and even medium-sized venues.

Our Rating

Many manufacturers employ the old smoke and mirrors technique, and people get some amps that do half the things they were supposed to. This one is not in the same category.

The description offered by Fishman is 100% accurate and previous customers back that up. One thing people disliked, though, is the tolex cover, which is prone to shredding if the amp is moved around too much.

What We Liked

First and foremost, we liked the price-quality ratio. This is one of the very few amps that is priced in accordance with what it does and not with what manufacturers think it does.

The effects are scarce, but the two it has are of high-quality and don’t drown the sound out like the effects on other amps do. Of course, we have to mention that the 60 watts of power are fantastic.

Acoustic amps don’t get so much power usually. While the speaker could have been a little larger, we’re pleased with it as it is. You know what they say… it could have been a lot worse.

What We Disliked

We have very few comments to make about this. One thing we disliked is the cover. As mentioned by other customers, it can get tattered if you drag your amp on stage. It’s not fully understood why Fishman decided to make it out of tolex.

If you take care of it, though, it won’t get in bad condition. Another thing we disliked was its limited array of effects. For this price, it should have had a lot more. This is all the more of a shortcoming when you’re used to creating a haunting overall sound.  These are all the negative things we had to report about the Fishman Loudbox.

Buying Advice

Some websites charge for shipping almost half the sum you pay for the actual product. We don’t know about you, but we think that’s simply outrageous. If you want free shipping, you should consider getting the Loudbox from Amazon.

Plus, Amazon offers all the models of the Loudbox (there are six of them), so if you want a more powerful one, you can easily get it.

Final Thoughts

The Fishman Loudbox is, hands down, one of the best amps for acoustic guitars we’ve ever tried. While it has its own shortcomings, like any other amp for that matter, it manages to be a deal you simply cannot miss.
